Responsibilities and Authority

Under the direction of the Manufacturing Manager, the Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for health, safety and well-being concerns related to the workplace. The Health and Safety Coordinator will work collaboratively with the production department and various cross-functional departments to achieve organizational goals and objectives.

Job Functions

  • Supports the daily operations of the Edmonton safety function and its activities.
  • Gather and communicate compliance material, including new requirements, updates, ect.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to date information on safety boards
  • Schedule, perform and document drills and exercises
  • Maintain emergency response plans
  • Advise managers, supervisors and employees about safe work practices and safety standards and regulations
  • Recommend procedures and equipment for safety and compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Develop health and safety policies and programs
  • Facilitate employee safety committees and programs
  • Promote safe work practices and injury prevention activities
  • Participate in incident investigations
  • Manage WCB cases and incidents
  • Inspect machines to identify potential hazards
  • Recommend risk-reduction measures
  • Regularly inspect premises for fire hazards and adequate fire protection, and inspect fire fighting equipment
  • Investigate the causes of incidents and develop procedure or devices to prevent future occurrences.
  • Conduct noise level surveys
  • Take air quality samples
  • Complete ergonomic assessments
  • Identity dusts, vapours or gasses, and advise management about corrective measures
  • Other Duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

  • OH&S Degree, Diploma, NCSO or certificate of CRSP.
  • Understanding of the manufacturing industry; 2-5 years considered an asset
  • 2 years of COR Audit Experience
  • 2 years of WCB Claim experience
  • Environmental experience considered an asset
